While the official start of the 2011 provincial election campaign will likely be after the Labour Day long weekend when the Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba is asked to dissolve the legislature, the unofficial start to the campaign was this past week.

Manitoba Progressive Conservatives launched our campaign Wednesday in Winnipeg with a room filled with 400 energetic volunteers ready to begin the process of bringing positive change to Manitoba. While NDP Leader Greg Selinger used his campaign launch earlier in the same day to continue his message of fear and negativity, unwilling to run on his own record, Manitoba Progressive Conservatives are focused on the future and bringing vision, change and progress to the province.

It was exciting to be joined on Wednesday at the campaign launch by about 40 Manitoba paramedics who were wearing “Paramedics for Change” t-shirts. These paramedics see healthcare on the front-lines each and every day as they respond to the calls of Manitobans who are in need of medical attention. They came to support the Progressive Conservative launch because their concerns about healthcare in Manitoba have not been listened to by the NDP over the past 11 years.

When the election is officially called next week, my role as MLA for the Steinbach constituency ends and I will be campaigning full-time for re-election. My wife Kim and I have greatly appreciated all of the support we have received from local residents over the past 8 years. We are always amazed at how generous residents of our area are with an encouraging word or in reminding us that they keep us in their prayers.

It is a great honour to represent in the Manitoba Legislature such a strong and diverse region and the great people who live in it. Thank you again for your friendship and your support.

BBQ A Huge Success

The 7th annual Steinbach Constituency BBQ was held last Thursday and it was a huge success with 1200 people in attendance. The weather cooperated and as they have been almost all of this summer, the mosquitoes were nowhere to be found.

I would like to thank everyone who attended. I would like to especially thank the many volunteers who helped to ensure the food was served quickly as well as the Lions Club of Steinbach for preparing the food. As well, thank you to The Workshop Boys for providing the entertainment on what was a beautiful evening.
