Manitoba got some good news earlier this week when it was reported by Manitoba Infrastructure that flood waters will be less than what was feared only a few months ago. Thanks to favourable weather, which has allowed for a slow melt, the crest of the Red River has arrived in southern Manitoba at levels that are on the lower end of what was predicted.
In addition, it is expected that Highway 75 will be able to remain open. The frequent spring closure of the highway is not just an annoyance for travelers in the area, but a particular hardship on community residents and businesses and it is welcomed news that the closure does not appear to be necessary this spring.
