During the global pandemic Manitoba has had among the least restrictions for the least amount of time of any jurisdiction in North America. However, there are still significant areas that have been impacted that need to be addressed. One area is the economy of the province. As a result, the Government of Manitoba has announced new investments in infrastructure for road construction and repair. On Monday, $150 million in projects were announced including the resurfacing of 21 kilometers of Highway #59 from PR 403 to Highway #52 in southeastern Manitoba.
In addition, the response to COVID19 put several elective medical procedures on hold that has created a backlog that the province is now addressing through a request for proposal to surgical providers. This will include the use of both public and private surgical facilities as the goal is to reduce the backlog as quickly as possible for those patients that have been waiting for procedures.
Overall, Manitoba has weathered the pandemic better than most areas of the world but there is still a need to support those areas that were impacted. These are just two measures which will assist in that recovery.
