Poppy

Every Remembrance Day is special as Canadians pause to reflect upon the sacrifice of so many who have served the country of Canada. This year is extra special as it is the 100th anniversary of the poppy as a symbol of that remembrance.

This past week I was honoured to, during my time as Premier, see the poppy projected onto the front of the Legislature where it will remain until Remembrance Day. As well, I was pleased to start what I hope will become a tradition as the Centennial Flame, which is on Memorial Boulevard in front of the Legislature, was lit in honour of the men and women who have served to defend and support our country. The Centennial Flame has only been lit twice before, in 1967 during Canada’s 100-year anniversary and during the Canada Summer Games held in Winnipeg in 2017.

Let us again take time on Remembrance Day to remember and honour those who have sacrificed and served our nation.
