View From the Legislature

Since last month’s provincial election, a number of constituents have raised questions with me regarding the status of the Progressive Conservative Leadership.

As most of you know, on election night, P.C. leader Hugh McFadyen indicated that he would step down as leader of the Party once a new leader was chosen. However, until that time, Mr. McFadyen is still the leader of the Party and is continuing his work in that role.

At this point, a date for the leadership convention to select a new leader and which will mark the end of Mr. McFadyen’s time as leader has not determined. It is ultimately up to a group of P.C. Party officials known as Executive Council to determine the date of the leadership convention. Executive Council will meet late in November to set a date for the leadership convention likely to be held in Winnipeg, with the potential of regional voting locations, as was the case in the 2006 leadership election.

The P.C. Party of Manitoba has a ‘one member, one vote’ leadership process. That means that every person who is a member in good standing of the P.C. Party will be able to cast a vote for the leadership candidate of their choice if more than one person seeks the leadership. This process ensures that every member of the Party has a voice in the selection of the new leader of the Party.

However, the process of selecting a new leader for the P.C. Party does not impact the responsibility that Progressive Conservative MLAs have. As your MLA for the Steinbach Constituency, I am here, together with members of my staff, to assist you with matters related to the provincial government.

I hope this information helps to clarify the current process that is underway within the P.C. Party of Manitoba and at the Legislature.

Constituency Office Hours

The Steinbach Constituency office is a resource for residents of the constituency who have questions related to the provincial government. The office remains located within the building at 227 Main Street in Steinbach however the hours of operation have changed slightly.

Currently the office is open Monday, Tuesdays and Thursdays every week. The contact information remains the same and can be found at the bottom of this article. Again, this office is there to serve the residents of the Steinbach Constituency so please feel free to contact us if you feel we can be of assistance to you.
