Here we are – Easter weekend. Have you thought about Easter? I mean really thought about it. Sometimes you hear people say early Easter, early spring. I’ve even said it myself. But I think we need to take a look at what Easter and Good Friday are…
Again this is my soap box, so this is my opinion. I think that Easter is the BIGGEST holiday in the Christian world. I know that Christmas is a biggie and I will not dispute that fact. Easter though is the time when Christ gave his live for me (and you), was buried and rose again for our sins. Without Easter we would all be doing sacrifices for our sins. While I know there are sheep farmers in Southern Manitoba, we would have to all find a sheep herder, buy his spotless lambs so that we could put them on alters to atone for the wrong doings we all do.
I am glad that Jesus died and rose again and that he thought about me while it was happening. He forgave ME. For some of you who know me know that I have spent my life on the good side of the law, and SOME people think that I can be quite prudish. I don’t smoke. I don’t drink, nor have I ever been drunk. I don’t smoke, and I seeing as I have no sense of rhythm, I certainly don’t dance. (Not that I am against any of the previously mentioned things, I just haven’t done any of them) All this in mind, I am a sinner. I needed Jesus to die for my sins. My sins may be not be of the illegal sort, but they are sins and they go against God’s word.
Benefits of Christ dying on the cross and rising again for me: I know exactly where I am going when I die. There is no second guessing my destination. I have the confidence and assuredly of my salvation.
A few years ago, my uncle in Ontario died. I was asked to speak at his funeral. I had a few points about him, but my last point was that my uncle made a decision for Christ when he was a child at camp. My dad asked Uncle Gilbert on his last visit to see him before he died, if he knew where his soul was going after he died, and Uncle Gilbert assured dad that Jesus had saved him and that he would be going to heaven. I knew I would see him again. (I know that some people disagree with my belief on eternal salvation, and you are more than welcome to disagree with me, but this is my soap box, please don’t email me and tell me I am wrong… email me on anything else).
So with this in mind, I am rejoicing that Jesus died, was buried and raised again in 3 days I am also rejoicing this weekend that I am a child of the King. That makes me a princess. A princess with a soap box.
