Standing on my Soap Box

Procrastination

Wow, you know you’ve gotten caught up in procrastination when you have a delivery date for something, and it has passed, and here you are facing down the NEXT delivery date and you haven’t even cleared off the first one. Such is the dilemma I face today.

Two weeks ago I had a blog post due, today I have another one due, and here I am the first one isn’t done. So what is a woman to do…

I have a few choices, one – sit down and cry (I like this one! it doesn’t solve anything though); two – pull up my boot straps and get two done in one sitting (don’t like this option); and three, (the one I am following,) forget the fact that one is missing, and ramble on about nothing 🙂 !

Now with all that rambling said, here is my list of reasons for being late. First reason – I was sick; I had a serious throat infection, that needed medication to clear up. Second reason – I was in the process of getting my parents moved from a house to an apartment, which required considerable downsizing (I am still not sure we are done with all the downsizing); and lastly, and this is my favorite. I got a new job, therefore my mind has been working on over time trying to get my old job completed to the point that someone could step in fresh.

While all this sounds funny, I am not impressed, with myself that is! I know that every two weeks I have a blog post that needs to get written. I know when it is due, and I know what my schedule looks like. I should have had a few extras ready to pull out when needed. So for this due date, here is my blog post. For the next blog post, I will write it next week and send it in early (well, at least I hope that is what happens). I will also put my blog post due dates in my calendar for the Monday before they are due, this way, I will get everything in place to set up reminders that this doesn’t happen again.

The other thing I will do is forgive myself. As a female I have a habit of being very hard on myself. I have high expectations of what I want to get done. Some days I need to take a step back and look at my list of to do’s and prioritize them, I also need to allow for times like this past few weeks in my schedule.

With all this yammering on and on about my lack of multitasking skills as of late (this is not the norm!) I want to get on my soap box – because that is why I am here – and encourage you. If you are behind in things, remember you are not the only one. We all get a little behind in our duties once in a while. The idea though is that we pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, FORGIVE ourselves and move on. Start a new to do list, prioritize what is important, and get on with living! Sometimes you need to have a break.
