Standing on my Soap Box

Trust

Before I begin this blog, please note, that I have a head cold, and if my thoughts seem a little miss mashed, that is my excuse and I am sticking with it.

Have you ever thought about what it takes to trust? We go to the doctor, and when he/she gives you a prescription, you take it to the pharmacy and fill it out, and pop whatever they gave you into your mouth without even taking a second thought about it.

How about when you get onto any form of public transportation?  You step onto a plane, get in your seat, put on your seat belt, and you are trusting that the hiring person for  the company you choose to fly with has ensured that the pilot actually has a valid and current airplane license.

Here are the two things that I have been working up trust about:

1) My children going away to camp, and trusting that they will come home safely,

2) The sale of my current home and that God has the perfect home in mind for us.

With regards to number 1 – my youngest son went to camp a few weeks ago. Like a lot of mothers I was standing in the church parking lot with tears in my eyes as I said goodbye to my youngest. I knew my house would be quieter with him gone, but I was not able to see him every day ensuring he was ok, and safe. Then these last two weeks my oldest has been counselling at the same camp. Although he is 16, and well able to care for himself, there was still this whole is he safe/is he keeping other kids safe aspect of trust.

As with all our children, after they were born, we trusted them over to the Lord, that he would take care of them, and that if anything happened to them he would be there. Let me tell you that is easier to say than to do. I do know that God will be with them and keep them as he sees fit. (I just hope he doesn’t test me on this.)

The other trust thing going on in our home is the sale of our home. We have had it on the market for a month now. We have had a lot of showings, just no offers! We have also been looking at houses, we find one we like, and before we can put an offer on it, it gets sold to someone else. Our response has been “ok, God has something better for us”. It is hard to trust your future to someone else. It is so easy to give it to the Lord, say we leave this in your hands, and then pick it up and take it with you. In reality we should be leaving it with the Lord, and resting in his goodness and grace.

So why am I telling you this from my soapbox. Because I believe that God is sovereign. He will not give us more than we can handle. He also knows about our desires for a home, and the need for something that fits our needs now.

Trust – it is easy to say we trust God, not always easy to do. God knows we are human and loves us anyways. Here is to a bright future.
