Mennonite Heritage Village holds memberships in both the Association of Manitoba Museums and the Canadian Museum Association. It is important for us to maintain contact with other museums and to have access to the various resources available to us through these associations.
Last week the Association of Manitoba Museums (AMM) had its conference and Annual General Meeting in Winnipeg. Three of our staff attended various parts of the conference. Our Senior Curator, Roland Sawatzky, was one of the speakers during the Saturday sessions, addressing the topic of Community Exhibit Collaborations: A Museum Perspective. This presentation focused in part on one of this year’s MHV exhibits, 200 Years of Renewal, developed in collaboration with the Evangelical Mennonite Conference as part of their bicentennial celebration.
A significant element in this year’s AMM Conference was the celebration of 40 years of operation as an association. Along with about a dozen other museums, MHV was recognized as a charter member of the association.
The conference offered a variety of presentations on such topics as historical reflections, new logo and website, customer service, pest control, traveling exhibits and others. Delegates were also given an extensive and interesting tour of the Winnipeg Art Gallery, including some “behind the scenes” areas of the gallery. The conference ended on Saturday afternoon with the Annual General Meeting of the association.
