New Art Exhibit

Sunday afternoon marked a formal and celebratory opening of The Silent Contribution, paintings by Lynda Toews. This exhibit of art in The Art Hall and the Auditorium Gallery, explores the personalities of a variety of farm animals. Approximately 70 people from as far away as Winnipeg and Winkler attended this event. Lynda and her partner, Gary Brown, added to the afternoon’s activities by performing a set of Bluegrass music. They perform under the name LyndaRose & Gary. The exhibit will be open till May 21, 2013.

New Website

Mennonite Heritage Village recently unveiled a newly designed website at www.mhv.ca. Early in 2012 we applied for and received funding from the Steinbach Community Foundation Inc. and the Employee Foundation of the VKR Group on the recommendation of Loewen. These funds have allowed us to redevelop our website with a view to making it more interactive.

The new website provides vast amounts of information about our artifacts, activities, programs, and various other aspects of MHV. Photographs are used liberally to enhance communication.

Members wishing to renew their membership can do so by printing the form available on the website, filling in the requested information, and sending the form with appropriate membership fee to MHV. Similarly, volunteers will find an application form online which allows them to get involved quickly and efficiently. Donations toward the work of MHV can also be made online using a credit or debit card.

More enhancements to functionality are being planned. We would welcome observations from guests to this new website.

Annual General Meeting

The AGM of Mennonite Heritage Village will take place on April 9 in the Village Center Auditorium. This is the public’s opportunity to hear reports on the operations of MHV. Program reports, as well as financial reports, will be tabled for discussion. Our audited financial statement will be available to members at this event.

Our AGM is also the time when interested members are elected to the board of directors. Anyone interested in serving on the board should notify a member of the Nominating Committee. This committee includes Anne Friesen, Al Hamm, John Klippenstein and John Rempel. Contact information for these committee members is available at the MHV office.

The public is invited to attend and observe the proceedings. Decision-making is reserved for current MHV members. Typically coffee and a snack are served at the end of the meeting.

New Telephone System

A severe storm in October destroyed much of the functionality of our telephone system. Last week our new system was finally installed. As with many electronic systems, debugging and learning curves are involved. We apologize for any inconvenience to callers during the installation and transition time.
