One of the pleasures of working at Mennonite Heritage Village is experiencing the support of the community in a variety of ways. We have for some time been trying to raise funds to replace our big diesel lawn mower and our yard tractor. Both are in need of a lot of care and maintenance. Each year we cross our fingers hoping that the machines will make it through another season.
A few months ago we paid the people at Enns Brothers a visit and were invited to consider an offer to rent a new line of yard-care equipment. The offer would include three small tractors with mowers, a tiller, a snow blower, a grass bagger, and a front-end loader.
The line of equipment was brought into the shop and we were invited to come and view it. Kevin Pankratz, an MHV board member, joined me. We gazed longingly at the fine new equipment and struggled to imagine how we would ever be able to afford, even the rent on it.
Obviously the folks at Enns Brothers understand that MHV is not a cash rich organization. They also understand that MHV provides valuable services in the community and beyond, and made a very generous and affordable offer. Once all the paperwork has been processed we will take delivery of this new line of equipment. We expect to have little difficulty recruiting volunteers to cut grass and till gardens this summer.
