Spring on the Farm turned out quite differently than we had planned this year, as the weather forced the cancellation of some of our activities. But it was good to see the number of guests who did brave the severe elements to enjoy the day at Mennonite Heritage Village.

Although gardening, field work, and a tractor parade were not viable activities, others were moved into buildings to provide a comfortable environment for those who attended. The entertainment shows were moved from the tent into the auditorium. The petting zoo established itself in the barn, and the Steinbach and Area Garden Club did a gardening workshop in one of our meeting rooms. The Livery Barn Restaurant proved to be a popular place to spend some time.

One of the special visitors at Spring on the Farm was of the “winged” variety: a male Scarlet Tanager. While normally found high up in the canopy of the forest, this particular one was sighted close to the ground. Maybe it was just too windy up in the tree tops.
