Our first session of Pioneer Day-Camp will take place July 8-12 daily from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM. This session is intended for children ages 5-8. There is still room available.
The second session will happen on August 19-23 and will be intended for children ages 9-12. Children may still register for this session as well.
Devon Guenther, our Education Coordinator, provides an overview of the program. “Children will come for a week Monday to Friday and experience how life was lived in a nineteenth century Mennonite Village. Every day we highlight a different theme such as, ‘Who are the Mennonites?, Food & Home, Work & Play, Transportation, and The Windmill.’ These fun activities emphasize the role of a pioneer Mennonite child with family and community. The children are given hands on opportunities to bake ‘schnetje’ (biscuits), work with tools in the blacksmith shop, grind wheat with a Miller, and play many traditional Mennonite games. The staff wears a traditional Mennonite wardrobe to enhance the children’s experience. The week is full of FUN! The children learn skills and share new experiences which can translate into their everyday lives.”
