New Water Feature

This blog often addresses the value of having partnerships with various local clubs. Here’s another example of how this works.

Some months ago a member of the MHV Auxiliary informed me that the group wanted to provide MHV with a type of water feature referred to as a Bubbler. Last week the Bubbler was installed. It’s a great addition to one of our prime garden areas at Mennonite Heritage Village.

Guests exiting the Village Centre at the south doors, heading for the Village Main Street, have often stopped immediately to admire the flowers along the pathway. Now, in addition to the visual beauty of those flowers, guests will also hear trickling water. The Bubbler has been placed immediately to the right of the exit doors, in the little alcove which formerly displayed a bird bath and an old gardening implement.

The Bubbler is a large rock, about one meter high and a third of a meter wide and deep. Water escapes through three holes at the top of the rock, creating the gentle bubbling sound. The water is continuously recirculated by a pump mounted below the rock.

While the idea to install this water feature seems to have originated with the MHV Auxiliary, the Steinbach and Area Garden Club and Barkman were both engaged in the project as well. We are grateful to all three organizations for their participation.

The Garden Club invited their members to come and observe the Bubbler’s installation as a workshop on installing this type of garden feature. A significant number of their members took in the workshop last week.
