Volunteer Opportunity

MHV has many artifacts that need varying degrees of restoration work. One that is being focused on now is a hay wagon. This is a wooden wagon on wooden wheels, designed to function as a portable hay feeder. It can be loaded with hay, hauled to the pasture, and left to feed the cattle. There is a photo of it in MJ’s CafĂ© in Steinbach.

It looks like a fairly simple wagon and it is. The parts that are not simple to replace are the wheels. In fact, we also have a number of other wooden wagons that need to have wheels either repaired or replaced.

There are wheelwrights around who are willing to help us. What we really need is a few volunteers who are interested in learning this skill. One of the wheelwrights we know is quite willing to provide training. We have a heated shop and a lot of work that could be done over a period of time. If you know of someone who may be interested, have them call Barry at 204-326-9661.
