Friesen Machine Works

Last week’s film night was a successful event as evidenced by the large number of people attending and by the favourable comments we heard over pie and coffee that evening. Following the event we’ve heard from individuals who had been interested in attending but, for one reason or another, were not able to. We’ve also had inquiries about borrowing or buying the film.

The film is not for sale at this time; however it will be available as a loan from our lending library in the near future. Village Books & Gifts, the MHV gift shop, also has copies of two books which provide additional information about the Abraham S. Friesen Family. They are Abraham S. Friesen: Steinbach Pioneer by Hilton Friesen and Ralph Friesen, and Between Earth & Sky: Steinbach, the First 50 Years by Ralph Friesen.

I was impressed by the film’s ability to preserve the story of Friesen Machine Works and also by its effectiveness in retelling the story to a large, interested audience. Hopefully we can influence film-makers like Laszlo Markovics to make more of these films, preserving and telling more stories of individuals, families, businesses and institutions.
