Have you ever wondered what God has in store for you? Here is a snapshot of my thoughts one morning as I was reading a book on running by Adam Goucher and Tim Catalano.
The following is a quote from Maslow that got my thoughts going this way:
What a man can be he must be… Self fulfillment – namely to the tendency for him/her to become actually what he is potentially… The desire to become more and more what one is! ~ Maslow
Dear Lord,
What did YOU make me to be? What are my desires REALLY? What purpose am I supposed to fulfill? Your word says that if we delight in you, we will receive from you the desires of our heart. I have heard it said that if we delight in you, our desires will be your desires. So then with that in mind, what are your desires for my life?
While I know what are the titles I have that don’t change; wife mother, employee etc, I don’t know the “other stuff”. I don’t know the “other stuff”. Distance runner, encourager, or exercise coach? What did you make me to be? Who am I to be a blessing to? Who am I to encourage. What am I to do to gain access to the gifts/blessings you have in store for me? While I don’t believe that I am to only have a happy life (if that were so, then I am living the wrong life, cause life has been a mix of blessings and hardships), I also don’t believe that life is supposed to be all hum drum and bland.
When it comes to the titles I have that don’t change, the jobs that they entail are changing and require different energy from me. My marriage is stable, my children are growing up, and they really don’t need me like they used to, and I am far from retiring. So once again Lord I ask, what am I to become outside of my titles? Is there some great and wonderful “aha” moment coming? There are days when I see someone (and it isn’t anyone in particular) and I wonder if I can help them in any way? Then I get exercise ideas popping into my head and I wonder if that is my new life story outside of my titles. You Lord are my heavenly “daddy”, so I am asking for you to reveal yourself to me. Guide my thoughts, open my heart to what you have in store for me, so that I can be ALL that you created me to be, and so that I can bless others as you have blessed me.
So then, as far as my soap box goes… I pray that if you have the same questions I do about if your life is all that God intended for you, that you too would seek the face of our Lord. He is a great God, and as his word says – we give to our children good gifts and we are imperfect humans, imagine what type of gifts God has in store for us. He will hear your prayers (just as he heard mine this morning), and in due time he will answer them.
