With the global economy plagued by uncertainty, the only way for Canada to ensure a prosperous economic future is through the sound management of taxpayer dollars. That’s why our Conservative Government is delivering a balanced budget this year.

We are delivering on our promise and introducing legislation to help ensure the federal government maintains balanced budgets in normal economic times. Outside of extraordinary circumstances – such as recession, wartime, or natural disaster – if the government posts a deficit all cabinet ministers will have their pay cut.

We spent during the recession to help create jobs, but we always maintained our promise to return Canada to balance. Balanced budgets help ensure taxpayer dollars are used to support important social services rather than paying interest costs.

This is a long-term commitment. With balanced budgets, our Government will keep taxes low, help ensure stable social programs, and continue to ensure that hard-working Canadian families here in Provencher and families right across the country have more money in their pockets.
