High-Speed Internet Coming to Provencher

  • Ted Falk, Author
  • Member of Parliament, Provencher

On May 20th in La Broquerie I was pleased to announce with Minister Tony Clement that the Government of Canada will bring high-speed Internet services to over 4,500 homes in Provencher.

This broadband infrastructure announcement, part of the Connecting Canadians program, was great news for our communities in Provencher. Our Government understands the importance of high-speed Internet access for communities like ours. Connecting Canadians demonstrates the Government’s commitment to delivering for us in Southeastern Manitoba.

This is delivering on our Government’s commitment to rural Canadians to connect an additional 280,000 households in rural parts of the country to high-speed Internet. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are expected to deliver a minimum speed of five megabits per second (Mbps). Much of this will be completed by the time Canada celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2017.

Last summer, the Government invited Canadians to provide feedback online to help better determine areas in need of high-speed Internet access. Once the information was received from individual Canadians and governments across the country, Industry Canada invited ISPs to submit proposals for funding under Connecting Canadians to build wireless or wired infrastructure.

The Government of Canada is partnering with dozens of ISPs to build the necessary wireless or wired infrastructure across the country that will bring an additional 280,000 Canadian households high-speed Internet access. By Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017, over 98 percent of Canadian households will be able to subscribe to new or improved high-speed Internet services, delivering on the Harper Government’s commitment to Canadians.

Net-Set Communications will be providing broadband services to the following areas in Provencher: Alexander, Powerview-Pine Falls, De Salaberry, Reynolds, Emerson, Ritchot, Franklin, Hanover, La Broquerie, Springfield, Lac du Bonnet, Ste. Anne, Montcalm, Steinbach, Morris, St-Pierre-Jolys, Niverville, Stuartburn, Pinawa, Taché, Piney and Whitemouth.

This is great news for us here in Provencher and I will continue to work with our Government to improve telecommunications across Southeastern Manitoba.
