Rona Ambrose Engaging with Manitoba’s Business Leaders

  • Ted Falk, Author

On January 19th, I was pleased to host the Honourable Rona Ambrose and the Honourable Lisa Raitt at an economic roundtable meeting in Winnipeg. Ms. Ambrose, as the Leader of the Official Opposition and Ms. Raitt, as the Finance critic, listened to concerns from Manitoba business leaders.

Ms. Ambrose assured business leaders that she will keep the Liberal Government accountable on issues facing the economy. Some of the issues that were discussed included falling oil prices, the Canadian dollar, infrastructure and the need for government to work with businesses during uncertain economic times.

Ms. Ambrose also had a chance to speak at the Manitoba Chamber of Commerce Luncheon that same day. I was very impressed with the Leader of the Official Opposition and how she presented herself to the group. This Manitoba visit is part of a country wide outreach as Ms. Ambrose listens to the issues facing Canadians. I am pleased with the work that she is doing to reach out to all Canadians.

I believe that it is very important for a government to understand the needs of business, especially here in Provencher. As a rural riding, we rely heavily on small businesses that invest in their communities and employ a significant number of people.

Unfortunately, the new Liberal government does not seem to prioritize the needs of our communities in Provencher or across Western Canada. I have been clear that I will work with any party in the best interest of our country and especially our riding, however I will defend the values and interests of Southeastern Manitoba.

As Ms. Ambrose’s outreach continues across the country, I want to continue to seek your input on the issues that are affecting you. I always appreciate the feedback as it helps me understand your concerns so that I can effectively communicate them in Ottawa.
