Summer Jobs for Students in Provencher

The Canada Summer Jobs Program (CSJ) will soon begin accepting applications from employers for funding assistance to help with the hiring of summer students for 2017.

Every year, CSJ helps local employers create summer job opportunities for students right here in Provencher.

Often, many young people have difficulty finding valuable work experience, especially in smaller rural communities. Through the Canada Summer Jobs Program, funding help is provided to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees to help create summer job opportunities for students aged 15 to 30.

Through this program, students learn transferrable skills such as public speaking, time management, self-confidence, and organizational skills. This experience equips young people with the skills and experience they need to get jobs now and prepare for the workforce of tomorrow.

Last summer, 86 organizations in Provencher received funding totalling $380,624 to help hire 105 summer students through the CSJ Program. Jobs last year were wide-ranging; from working in child daycares to serving in seniors’ homes and from local museums to the 2016 Manitoba Summer Games.

Applications for 2017 will soon be available at Service Canada Centres and online at www.servicecanada.gc.ca

To support employers, the Canada Summer Jobs Applicant Guide for 2017 will also be available. This guide provides instructions on filling out an application, eligibility requirements, and assessment criteria.
