The provincial government announced last week that provincial park lease and service fees will be frozen for the next two years as consultations with cottage owners and associations continue over that time frame.
Lease fees are accessed on the value of the land and fees are intended to pay for the services provided in the parks such as garbage disposal, road maintenance and water and wastewater services. It is important that these fees are both fair and transparent. They need to be fair to cover the costs of ensuring our provincial parks remain in excellent condition and they need to be transparent so that those who are paying the fees know what they are getting in return.
Under the previous NDP government, arbitrary increases were to be forced on those who lease property in the provincial parks. With this announcement, there will be a proper consultation to ensure that it is done properly and respectfully.
