The Liberals are back in power. That means higher taxes and less money in your pocket.

Justin Trudeau and the Liberals have spent the last four years making life less affordable for Canadians and, sadly, I see no signs that they plan to change course.

For example, there is the Liberal Carbon Tax.

The Liberal Carbon Tax makes everything from gas, to groceries, to home heating more expensive, while doing little to reduce emissions.

The Liberal Government has announced that the Carbon Tax will go up to $50 a tonne by 2022. What the Liberals have refused to say is how much higher they plan to increase it after that?

What is clear is that Justin Trudeau intends to raise the Carbon Tax. It’s time for him to come clean with Canadians and tell them by exactly how much?

According to Parliamentary Budget Officer, Justin Trudeau and the Liberals would have to raise their carbon tax by an additional $50 per tonne by 2030 in order to meet Canada’s Paris Targets. This would increase the price of gasoline by 23 cents per litre.

However, in a new report, the Ecofiscal Commission has concluded that the Liberal Carbon Tax must hit $210 per tonne by 2030 in order for Canada to meet its Paris targets. At $210 per tonne, Canadians would be paying more than 40 cents extra per litre.

Canadians cannot afford that. Nor should they be punished every time they drive their kids to school or turn up their thermostat on a cold winter day.

Moreover, if the Liberals were serious about the environment, they would scrap their carbon tax and draw from the common sense, practical policies put forward by Conservatives, like the Green Home Renovation Tax Credit, and ending raw sewage dumps into Canadian rivers.

Justin Trudeau and the Liberals are focussed on a carbon tax for one reason and one reason only: they feel entitled to more of your money.

Canada’s Conservatives are focussed on common-sense policies that will leave more money in your pockets. You worked hard. You earned it. You should get to decide how to spend it. That’s what I’ll be fighting for as your common-sense voice in Ottawa.
