Canadians are facing record high inflation. Families are skipping meals to make ends meet. Many Canadians cannot afford to heat a home let alone purchase one – and winter is coming. Most economists agree that we’re headed for a recession.
What is the Liberal Government’s solution? To TRIPLE the Carbon Tax. You read that right. Not just raise, triple.
As of April 1st , the Liberal Carbon Tax will jump to 37.57 cents per litre of gasoline. Come the spring, the Carbon Tax will add approximately $22-30 per fill (depending on tank size), or an additional $1,000 in gas, per year – this on top of existing gas taxes. Far more than the average family will receive in Carbon Action Incitive Rebates. And that’s just gasoline.
The Liberal Carbon Tax is a tax on everything, gas, groceries, and home heating. The only thing not affected by the Carbon Tax are big industrial polluters to whom the Prime Minister inexplicably gave exemptions.
The Carbon Tax has done little, if anything, to help the environment – the Liberal Government has yet to meet a single one of its environmental targets – and even if it did, Canada only causes approximately 1.5% of global emissions.
Prime Minster Justin Trudeau should be honest and admit what Conservatives have recognized from the beginning: His carbon tax was never about the environment and is merely a tool for wealth redistribution.
To make matters worse, as of Jan 1st, the Liberal Government also plans to raise payroll taxes on EI and CPP premiums, and on alcohol April 1st.
This is not the time to be raising taxes on Canadians.
Had Justin Trudeau not been so addicted to reckless spending, we would not be in this position.
Instead, the Liberals have spent like there’s no tomorrow, taking us from a (Conservative) balanced budget seven years ago to more debt than every other Canadian government combined.
Conservatives have brought forward several motions calling on the government to put a moratorium on any new taxes. Sadly, the costly coalition of the Liberals and NDP voted down this commonsense measure.
Conservatives are the only party listening to Canadians. We are the only party that understands the kitchen table issues facing families.
