Last week, Manitoba Progressive Conservative Leader Hugh McFadyen announced that his last day as leader of the Party and MLA for Fort Whyte will be July 30th. On the night of the provincial election last fall, Mr. McFadyen indicated he would be resigning his position as leader in the coming year. Mr. McFadyen announced that he has taken a position as head of a new Calgary office for consultant company DFH Public Affairs. The new job will require significant travel between the two cities but he and his family still plan to make Winnipeg home.
A leadership convention for the Party is still scheduled for October. Currently, only one candidate is declared, Brian Pallister. If no other candidate declares by the end of this month (the filing deadline), Mr. Pallister would be acclaimed leader a short time after.
I know that there are many people in the Steinbach Constituency who were able to meet Mr. McFadyen during his 6 years as leader of the Manitoba Progressive Conservative Party and join with me in thanking him for his service and wishing him and his family all the best in the future.
