The Village Centre Auditorium was built in 1967, just in time for Canada’s centennial celebrations. It was built as our first museum and office structure. Artifacts and archives were stored and exhibited in this building until 1990 when the new Village Centre was built.
Until recently, it was quite noticeable to passersby that the Auditorium and Village Centre are in fact two distinct buildings. While the brick and stucco exteriors were relatively similar, the windows and trim were very different. Through the generosity of some businesses and individuals in our community, together with funding from the Province’s Community Places program, the Auditorium has now been painted to match the Village Centre. I wonder how many people have recently driven by the museum without even noticing the white windows and red trim on the Auditorium.
