As it happens, MCC Manitoba is also celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Several months ago we learned that they wanted to plant a tree, preferably a Chortitz Oak tree, as one of the ceremonial activities of their anniversary year. We offered them a small tree, growing on our museum grounds, which is a descendent of the great Chortitz Oak tree in Ukraine. MCCM graciously accepted our gift and invited our board of directors to participate in the ceremonial planting. This event took place on May 10 at the MCC offices on Plaza Drive in Winnipeg. Four members of the MHV board of directors attended. MHV Board Chair John Klippenstein spoke greetings from MHV and joined MCCM Board Chair Stefan Epp-Koop in planting the tree. MHV Board Secretary Anne Friesen offered a prayer of thanksgiving. After the conclusion of the ceremony, the two boards enjoyed lunch together.
