Fall Priorities

This week the Conservative caucus has been holding meetings in Halifax in advance of the start of the fall session of Parliament. Canada’s Conservatives are a united team, focused on holding the Liberal Government accountable for its uncontrolled spending and reckless decisions. The objective of our gathering has been to discuss our priorities and strategies as we work to ensure the voices of Canadians are heard in Parliament. Here are a few things you can count on as Parliamentarians return to Ottawa.

Conservatives will continue to be the voice of the taxpayer. Since the last election, Conservatives have vigorously opposed the Liberal tax-and-spend agenda. The Liberals have already moved to increase taxes in order to fuel their out-of-control spending. It began with an abandoned campaign promise to reduce taxes for small businesses and continues with the introduction of a CPP tax hike that will cost a family with two working parents as much as $2,200 a year. We will fight to keep taxes low so families can keep more of their hard-earned money and spend it on their priorities – not Prime Minister Trudeau’s.

Conservatives will continue to hold the Liberal Government to account for their betrayal of middle-class Canadians. The Liberals have cut back the amounts that Canadians can save tax-free and ended tax credits for children’s fitness and art, as well as for post-secondary education and textbooks, all while breaking their promise to keep deficit spending under $10 billion annually. Conservatives know that Canadians don’t want to foot the bill for irresponsible Liberal waste and we will work to defend Canadians’ pocket books every step of the way.

Another priority will be to press the Liberals for answers regarding their motive and lack of information surrounding a potentially dangerous military deployment in Sub-Saharan Africa under the guise of so-called “peacekeeping”. The Liberal Government has committed to deploy up to 600 Canadian troops to United Nations operations without providing Canadians with any details as to where, when, or why our troops will be deployed. While many questions remain unanswered, we do know that the Liberals are sending almost half a billion dollars to the United Nations at a time when that investment is desperately needed at home.

As we return to Ottawa, Conservatives will keep our tone respectful but we will not shy away from calling the Liberals to account on the issues that matter to Canadians. Our team is looking forward to providing strong representation in Parliament and Canadians can count on us to look out for their interests.
