On Parliament Hill

Time to Put Down the Selfie Stick

Last week, the Conservative Caucus met in Quebec City to discuss how we can continue to hold this Liberal government accountable for all of its reckless spending and dangerous fiscal policies.

It’s hard to believe that Justin Trudeau, in just one short year, has somehow managed to turn our economy completely upside down. And it’s costing you and your family dearly.

Under the Trudeau government we’ve seen a flood of new taxes and government spending spinning out of control. The budget deficit and national debt are growing at an alarming rate and will continue to do so for an entire generation if changes aren’t made.

Justin Trudeau was elected on the promise of a “modest deficit” and a focus on infrastructure. So far, we’ve seen him spend your tax dollars on projects mostly outside of Canada. In fact, earlier this month, the Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) released a report that confirmed Conservative concerns that the promised infrastructure funds are not flowing to communities.

In response, Dianne Watts and Alain Rayes, Conservative Critics for Infrastructure, Communities and Urban Affairs, released the following statement:

“This week the PBO confirmed what we have been hearing from communities for months: the Liberals’ much lauded infrastructure program is failing to get money out the door, resulting in project delays. Over the last session of parliament, we repeatedly asked the Minister of Infrastructure to explain why over 96% of the infrastructure projects announced in the past year are not yet under construction. Unfortunately, instead of addressing this issue, the Minister ignored our concerns and communities missed a full construction season.”

Clearly, their plan is not working.

Under the previous Conservative Government, we worked very hard to strengthen our economy and deliver a balanced budget. We made it a priority to reduce taxes for hard working Canadian families. We were the envy of the world, and proof that a country could lower taxes AND eliminate the deficit.

As we enter into this new session of Parliament, our Conservative team will continue to hold Justin Trudeau and his Liberal Government accountable – so we can start to right this ship – before it’s too late.

It’s time for Justin Trudeau to put down the selfie stick, get to work and start delivering for Canadians.
