Pre-Budget Consultations Underway

Finance Minister Scott Fielding announced that Budget 2019’s pre-budget consultations are underway. I encourage all Manitobans to submit their views and ideas for the upcoming budget. Our government knows fiscal responsibility is an important cornerstone of a strong government, and we want to hear from Manitobans about what they value and provide a venue for their voices to be heard.

Our government is committed to responsible fiscal policy after 17 years of mismanagement by the former government. We know the importance of investing in what matters most to Manitobans, including health care, education, and infrastructure. We also need to make sure to operate in an efficient manner, respecting Manitoba taxpayers. One tool that you can use to provide feedback is the interactive budget, which allows you to adjust revenues and expenses in areas you think are a priority for Manitoba. Similar to balancing your budget at home, it provides a great way to share your views about where you believe Manitoba should be investing.

The Budget Consultations website, www.manitobansmakingchoices.ca, provides additional opportunity for feedback from Manitobans about the future of Manitoba’s finances. The website has options to submit online and written submissions or take the 2018 Pre-Budget Survey. All of the feedback will support our government as we plan for the future of our province. This is an important activity that takes place annually to hear from Manitobans about their priorities for spending. It also provides a better picture of the challenges faced by elected officials to carefully balance the needs of our communities, and I hope that you take time to tell our government what is important to you and your family.
