As Justin Trudeau spends yet another week dealing with the fallout from the SNC-Lavalin scandal, Conservatives are hard at work developing substantive, common-sense policies that will benefit all Canadians.

Last week, Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer unveiled the details of his plan to eliminate the GST from home heating bills.

Heating one’s home in the winter is not a luxury for Canadians. It is a necessity. We do not tax other necessities like groceries and we should not be taxing home heating.

If elected in October’s federal election, Conservatives will offer Canadians a rebate on the 5% tax charged on all residential home energy, including electricity, natural gas, propane, wood pellets, heating oil, and other heating sources.

(Unfortunately, the most expensive heating source in the country – the hot air coming from the Liberals – will continue to cost Canadians.)

Under our plan, Canadians will not only save the cost of the federal tax on their home heating and energy bills, they will also save hundreds of dollars more each year after we repeal Justin Trudeau’s Carbon Tax.

90% of Canadian families are already paying more in taxes under the Liberals. I hear every day from Canadians who are struggling to make ends meet. The Liberal Carbon Tax will only increase the cost of everyday essentials like gasoline, groceries, and home heating, and make life more expensive for everyone. A Conservative Government will put this money back in the pockets of Canadians where it belongs.

As Justin Trudeau is busy spending your money on commercials to promote his Carbon Tax, Conservatives are looking for simple, common-sense cost savings to make life more affordable for Canadians.
