This past Saturday hundreds of people gathered to honour the life and public service of long-time Hanover Municipal Councillor Bernie Stahn.
As Councillor for Ward 2 (Mitchell and area) since 2002 as well as the Deputy Reeve, Bernie was a strong advocate for his area and the Municipality as a whole. As was noted by Reeve Stan Toews, Bernie was solution orientated and always looked at challenges and problems as an opportunity to overcome them. Even through his illness over the past year he continued to be an active and valued member of the Council.
In every opportunity I had to interact with Bernie, either in a professional or a personal manner, he was a true gentleman. He was a passionate representative, but approached every issue with grace, understanding and wisdom.
It was evident from those who paid tribute to him that he demonstrated those special qualities in his career at Canada Post and especially to his family, through who his most enduring legacy is seen. On behalf of my wife Kim and I, the residents of the Steinbach Constituency and the province of Manitoba we extend our gratefulness to Bernie, his wife Sandra, and his entire family for their dedicated service to our region and our province.
