I have a confession to make. I am a CBC Radio listener. Because I live in Winnipeg and work in Steinbach, I spend about 2 hours a day in my car.

Piety – since I was a boy I have wanted to be more pious and at the same time I have not liked any of the pious people that I know.

Back on February 27th Bethesda Place celebrated 10 years since its opening. I was asked to put together a slide show of the ten years and as I did I got to pondering the number of people that have come and gone from Bethesda Place in the last 10 years.

Your wife hasn’t been well, a cancer diagnosis a year ago has led to a total reorganization of your life.

We sure live in a strange society. Public safety is high on the Federal Governments agenda and at the same time our entertainment industry pumps out movie after movie after movies that revolve around people in terrifying situations.

“Living life on my terms is hard and regrettable. Living life of God’s terms is hard but unregrettable.” This was the premise of a sermon I listened too back in January.

Alone, physically weak, emotionally exhausted and overwhelmed. At times I am overwhelmed at how profoundly difficult it is for people to get the care that is needed.

A while back I was sitting around a table in a conference room with members of the Region’s Palliative Care Team.

Early in January I sat with a woman in her 70’s that is afflicted with a number of lung problems.

Personal care homes, nursing homes, long term care facilities, whatever you might want to call these facilities, the provide an extremely important function in a society that has for the most part taken the care of the very young and the frail elderly out of the hands of families.
