The first 22 years of my career I worked in isolation. I was the pastor of small congregations, I was the only staff member and I would get up and go to my office each day and the building was absolutely empty.

It happens often, a life changing announcement comes out of the blue that changes the trajectory of our life completely. A gentleman I have known was recently admitted to the Emergency Department.

Perspective makes a lot of difference; working in a personal care home I see this a lot. In the course of a week, I sat with a number of residents who shared, unsolicited, their perspective on living in a personal care home.

In bioethics there are four primary ethical principles: respect for personal choices of the patient (autonomy), beneficence (do good), nonmaleficience (do no harm) and justice (equity is the distribution of care). Now that’s a boring way to start and article, isn’t it?

Miscarriages are quite common. On the babycenter.ca website it is reported that early miscarriages are very common. Often, a woman miscarries before she even realizes she’s pregnant.

I’ll readily confess – I am a dinosaur, a Luddite or whatever you call a person who is deeply hesitant to get on board with technology.

Recently I had the luxury of reading all day long. I picked a book, Losing My Mind by Thomas DeBaggio, a book about Alzheimer’s disease.

Discrimination is a “dirty” word, to be accused of discriminating is one of the worst accusations that can be made against someone these days.

You may have decided to go see the newest movie about Jesus called “Risen”. The story is about a Roman soldier who is ordered to get to the bottom of the rumors that Jesus had risen from the dead.

It was a winter’s afternoon, just before Christmas. I was with a family who had been in a battle against a disease that was threatening to take their Mom’s life.
