Strange how things change as we age; at times we think we are so independent that the friendship and help of others is not necessary.

When fear numbs my heart and troubles my soul; I know no other solution other than to take it to the Lord in prayer.

There is an old saying. “Those who pray within their homes, surround them with a wall that is stronger than iron.” Have we ever asked ourselves the question… why is it important to pray?

We look at our Lord’s life and death here on earth, listen to His words, and say, “Here is someone who understands what I am going through!” He has experienced all our years of heartaches and bitterness.

One of the oldest instruments for navigation have been the magnetic compass. It is a vital tool that allows ships to steer a given course.

When we get a little older, pension age that is, we often ask people to repeat whatever it is that has been said. I suppose we do that because we want to be sure we understood and got it right – after all, we do not want to go and mess up the story with half-truths.

Looking back to the time when I was a young person, I often did odd or strange things to find out if God would approve of my decision.

The story that Christianity must tell sounds at times as being foolish to those who are perishing. And the reason being that it shows how mere human wisdom and understanding is almost certain to fail.

Have you ever noticed how earthly minded we are? Most of the time, my attention is centred on things right around me. Perhaps that should not be a surprise. After all, we are earth dwellers.

What makes a person humble? Have you ever felt humbled when you discovered that you had the privilege of, let us say, “teaching some very profound truth?”
