These days normal February fare on our dinner tables is fresh lettuce and tomatoes. We don’t even consider it a luxury. We give no thought to the energy that has gone into the production and transportation of that food from California to our dinner table.

We’ve experienced some unusually hot weather. And its been dry, unusually dry. If you’re like me, you wonder: Is this what climate change is going to be like for us? And the answer is: We don’t know!

On August 9th, SETI hosted a tour of a “food secure” garden near La Broquerie. Gabriel Gagne was our host and guide as we walked through his 0.18ac vegetable garden last Thursday.

Walking down the cleaning product aisle last week, I inhaled the heady scents and marveled at the variety of products available. It seems that every month there’s a new-and-improved formula for washing dishes or doing my laundry.

The year is more than half over. The longest day has come and gone. For a time even here in southern Manitoba we do not technically have night, only astronomical twilight from June 2 to July 11.

The question of downtown parking in Steinbach has come up again, as it does periodically. The focus of the discussion is, how many free parking spaces are needed.
