View From the Legislature

Many aspects of life and the economy have been disrupted over the past 18 months and it is encouraging to see so many returning.

Last week Public Health officials and the Department of Education released its back-to-school plan. It involves returning essentially all students to full time in class learning on September 7th and near normal operations.

Over the past 18 months there have been several traditions and events that have been missed as a result of the global pandemic.

On Monday of this week, I was honoured as Manitoba’s Deputy Premier and the MLA for Steinbach to announce that the provincial government and the federal government have reached an agreement to provide nearly $17.5 million to the City of Steinbach to support the construction of a new event centre in the city.

As Manitobans continue to enjoy another summer, the traditional August long weekend is fast approaching.

There are many worthwhile community projects and organizations across the province that better the towns and cities that we live in. They are diverse in their activities and in the people that they support.

There are many ways in a modern democracy that people can voice their opinions about public matters and decisions.

Canada Day 2021 will likely be a day of reflection that is unlike many in recent memory.

June is traditionally the season of graduations although again this year, it felt that things were anything but traditional. Like last year, graduations were altered due to COVID-19.

As vaccination programs accelerate around Canada, provinces are all engaged in a process of reopening social and economic activities following a difficult third wave of COVID-19 that has stressed the medical system in every province.
