View From the Legislature

While many Manitobans may not be aware of it, the province has an emergency savings account. Officially called the fiscal stabilization reserve, it is better known as the rainy day fund.

For most Canadians, the most profound part of the democratic process is voting. The ability to anonymously cast a vote for the candidate of your choice is truly at the heart of our free and democratic process.

It is with great gratitude that my family and I say thank you to the residents of the Steinbach Constituency for placing their trust in us and again electing me on September 10 as their Member of the Legislative Assembly.

With a provincial election about to begin, the end of my current term as MLA for the Steinbach Constituency is fast approaching. While I am looking forward to seeking re-election, it is also a good time to look back at this past term.

The term hero is often used in reference to famous sports stars or entertainers who exhibit skill or ability that is beyond what most of us are able to achieve.

It was an enjoyable evening this past Thursday at the open house for the new fire hall in Blumenort. There was of course much to attract the hundreds of people who came out for the occasion.

The relationship that exists between Canada and the United States has, for at least the past 100 years, been among the strongest bi-lateral relationships in the world.

With a provincial election now set for September 10th, Manitobans will begin to see signs, quite literally, of a looming election. As this election is being contested under newly drawn provincial boundaries, it will be more important than ever for voters to pay attention to those signs.

Canada Day celebrations are taking place across our region and across the country this weekend and as always there is a great deal to celebrate.

The Summer in the City festival has only been in existence for a relatively short period of time in Steinbach and yet it is already an event that has been embraced by the community and region.
