A 29-year-old Portage la Prairie man has been arrested and faces multiple firearms related charged in connection to an investigation that recently occurred in the community.
On November 26, 2021, at approximately 9:15pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of a male in possession of a firearm outside a business in Dakota Tipi First Nation, Manitoba. Upon arrival at the scene, officers learned that a male suspect had pointed a sawed-off rifle at another individual and then left the scene. There were no physical injuries reported as a result of the incident.
Police say that a short time later, the investigation led officers to a nearby residence where the suspect was identified and arrested. 29-year-old Jesse St. Paul, from Portage la Prairie, was taken into custody without incident.
RCMP report that St. Paul did not have the firearm on his person at the time of the arrest. RCMP Police Dog Services was enlisted to assist in the search for the weapon, and Police Service Dog Jolt located the sawed off rifle hidden on an adjacent property.
Jesse St. Paul has been charged with numerous firearms related charges.
