A 25-year-old Mitchell man was recently arrested and charged after the truck he was driving collided into a female pedestrian on Highway 12 in Steinbach.
On December 13, 2021, at 8:45am, Steinbach RCMP responded to a report of a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian. The incident occurred at the intersection of Highway 12 and Park Road West.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers located a 64-year-old Winnipeg woman lying on the roadway with serious injuries.
Initial police investigation determined that the female victim was walking east on Park Road West, attempting to cross Highway 12. At the same time, a concrete pump truck, also traveling east on Park Road West, attempted to turn north onto Highway 12 and struck the woman.
Police say that the truck, driven by a 25-year-old Mitchell man, stopped and remained at the scene. The victim was transported to hospital where she remains in stable condition.
RCMP report that the driver of the truck was arrested for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and taken into police custody. He was later released for a court date scheduled in March of 2022.
Steinbach RCMP, with support from the Criminal Collision Investigation Team and an RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist continue to investigate this incident.
