The province has approved 72 infrastructure renewal projects across the province and will invest more than $44 million to ensure the structural integrity of public schools and the continued safety of students and educators.
“The health and safety of Manitoba students and educators must be prioritized,” said Education and Training Minister Ian Wishart. “These necessary upgrades and repairs to existing facilities will ensure that Manitoba schools are maintained and renewed in order to provide our students with the best possible learning environments.”
Wishart noted the projects will be completed within a timeframe of six to 24 months following the award of tenders and start of construction. The projects announced include necessary health and safety-related infrastructure upgrades to roofing, mechanical systems and accessibility.
In addition, the province confirmed that two projects committed to by the previous administration, which had varying levels of Treasury Board status and different levels of conception, will not be receiving provincial funding. The projects, a gym addition at Kelvin High School and a sports field rehabilitation project at Dakota Collegiate, have received formal notification from Manitoba Education and Training.
