Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure advises the province’s snow removal crews are equipped and ready for clearing of Manitoba’s highways in response to blizzard warnings in place for parts of the province.
The province is currently patrolling highway conditions in preparation to deploy its heavy equipment fleet that includes approximately 340 truck plows, de-icing equipment and motor graders. Manitobans are reminded to always check Manitoba 511 for current road conditions prior to deciding to travel.
The province maintains the 19,000-kilometre highway system to provide safe and timely travel throughout the province during the winter season.
Environment Canada has issued blizzard warnings for parts of Manitoba. Conditions include snow and blowing snow with blizzard conditions developing early Friday morning and ending in the afternoon. The combination of falling snow and strong winds could reduce visibilities to near-zero on roads through Friday.
While Manitoba 511 is updated regularly by the provincial road patrol, conditions can change in a matter of minutes.
