Hanover School Division (HSD) confirmed that Steinbach RCMP were called to Steinbach Regional Secondary School on Tuesday March 14, 2017, after being notified of a youth carrying weapons in their backpack. HSD notes that the weapons had been safely separated from the youth without incident before police arrived and that the youth was arrested under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
HSD says that the incident was handled immediately and with professionalism by SRSS Staff and attending RCMP Steinbach Detachment Officers and at no time were students or staff in danger. Items recovered from the student included knives and an Airsoft replica firearm.
Hanover School Division reminds all parents and students that there is a zero tolerance policy for weapons of any kind in any school and that the safety of the students and staff is of utmost importance.
