The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is investigating an allegation of a careless discharge of a firearm by a Springfield Police Service officer.
On April 28, 2022, the Springfield Police Service notified the IIU of an incident they had recently become aware of that occurred on February 14, 2021. According to the notification, an on-duty officer discharged a service firearm within the detachment office. There were no injuries reported as a result of the incident.
Following a review of the circumstances in this matter, the civilian director has determined it is in the public interest for the IIU to investigate.
