A 20-year-old woman from the Rural Municipality of Hanover is facing charges in connection to a serious assault incident that occurred in Grand Marais, Manitoba. The woman was one of a group of seven that were arrested and charged.
On July 1, 2022, at approximately 11:20pm, Selkirk RCMP responded to a serious assault involving a firearm at a business located on Parkview Avenue in Grand Marais.
Investigation determined that a group of people attended a local business, assaulted a male employee and threatened him and others with a firearm. The suspects then fled the business in a vehicle at a high rate of speed and subsequently crashed into a ditch located on Parkview Avenue.
A bystander at the scene of collision approached the vehicle and was assaulted and threatened by the suspects. A second vehicle showed up, picked up the suspects and fled towards Winnipeg.
Witnesses were able to provide a description and licence plate of the suspect vehicle and officers located the vehicle going south on Highway 59 towards Winnipeg. Officers initiated a traffic stop, however the vehicle refused to stop and continued to drive erratically and at a high rate of speed into Winnipeg. Winnipeg Police Service was advised and with the assistance of Air-1, the suspect vehicle was tracked to a location in the Maples area of the city. Seven occupants were arrested without incident.
Police say that the victim and employee of the business, a 51-year-old male from Grand Marais, is currently in hospital with serious injuries. The second victim, the bystander at the scene of the collision, a 46-year-old male from the RM of Bifrost, suffered minor injuries and did not require medical attention.
RCMP report that 24-year-old Ethan Jones, from the RM of Portage la Prairie, is facing numerous assault, firearms and driving related charges related to this incident. Also facing charges in connection to this incident is a 20-year-old RM of Hanover woman and two Winnipeg men, 22 and 24 years of age.
