Steinbach RCMP are reporting that a 61-year-old La Broquerie man has died as the result of a recent head-on collision at a location on Highway 52, between Road 38 East and Road 39 East in the Rural Municipality of La Broquerie.
On July 8, 2022, at approximately 5:25pm, Steinbach RCMP responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 52. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered that two vehicles were on their roofs, one on the north side of the highway, the other on the south side. EMS was currently attending to several people at the time.
Initial investigation has determined that a minivan was traveling east on Highway 52 when a westbound SUV crossed the center line and collided head-on with the minivan.
Police say that the 61-year-old male driver of the minivan, from the RM of La Broquerie, was pronounced deceased on scene. The passengers in the minivan, a 54-year-old female and a 12-year-old male, were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The 38-year-old male driver of the SUV, from Steinbach, was also transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
RCMP report that the Steinbach driver has since been released from hospital and charges are pending.
A RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist and the RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
