The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred on September 27, 2022, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

On September 27, the IIU was notified by the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) of an incident that occurred at approximately 8:15 a.m. According to the notification, officers attended a residence on Barber Street in order to execute a warrant. Upon being allowed entrance into the residence, officers located a male armed with a knife. One officer deployed a Taser, striking the male. The male exited the residence and fled from police. Officers pursued on foot and located the male on Hallet Street. Verbal directions were given to the male to drop the knife and an officer subsequently discharged his service firearm, striking the male. The male was transported to Health Sciences Centre in unstable condition, where he was later upgraded to stable.

As any injury caused by the discharge of a firearm by a police officer is defined as a serious injury, the IIU is mandated to investigate. A team of IIU investigators was deployed.
