Nelson House RCMP are reporting that a 27-year-old snowmobiler from the community was recently found deceased along a trail north of Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation.
On January 30, 2023, at 3:30pm, RCMP received a report of an overdue member of the community who had gone out on snowmobile the day prior, and failed to return home.
Police were advised that the 27-year-old man had left the community and was believed to be heading towards a camp located north of Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation. A short time later, RCMP were advised that the body of the 27-year-old had been located deceased along the trail to the camp.
Officers on snowmobiles then responded to the scene. Investigation determined that the snowmobile operator was traveling along the shoreline of Footprint Lake at a high rate of speed when he collided with a tree.
RCMP report that the snowmobile operator, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, was pronounced deceased on scene.
