The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident where a female sustained serious injuries.
On February 6, 2023, Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) reported an incident to the IIU that occurred that same day. According to the notification, at approximately 9:23am, a witness contacted police to report a female on the Redwood Bridge. Officers attended to the scene and attempted to speak with her, however, she fell to the ice below. Officers were able to pull her to safety. She was subsequently transported to Health Sciences Centre where she was treated for fractures to her fibula, tibia, ribs and sternum.
As the injuries are defined as serious injury under the IIU regulations, the IIU is mandated to investigate.
