Steinbach RCMP have arrested and charged a 22-year-old male suspect from the Rural Municipality of Tache, in connection to a recent disturbance incident that occurred at the Days Inn, located on Highway 12 North in Steinbach.
During the early morning hours of February 13, 2023, Steinbach RCMP received a call from a distraught male, along with a subsequent call from the local Days Inn, reporting a disturbance in one of the rooms.
Upon arrival at the scene, RCMP tried to gain entry into the room, however the male suspect had barricaded the door. While trying to establish communication, RCMP officers smelled that something had begun to burn. Subsequently, the hotel was evacuated and RCMP were able to make entry through an outside window. Officers were then able to arrest the suspect and take him into custody.
Police say that Steinbach Fire and EMS were called to the scene to assist. Officers noted that the male suspect was transported to Bethesda Hospital with minor injuries, as well, two RCMP members were treated for minor injuries and released.
RCMP report that the 22-year-old male suspect, from the RM of Tache, is facing charges of arson, mischief over $5,000 and resisting arrest.
